City Bank, ITFC explore expansion of Shariah-compliant trade finance

City Bank PLC and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) held talks at City Bank’s head office on expanding Shariah-compliant trade finance, including export and green financing, as well as intra-OIC trade transactions.

According to a press release, a senior ITFC delegation led by Chief Executive Officer Eng Adeeb Yousuf Al Aama recently visited City Bank’s head office for talks with City Bank officials.

Managing Director and CEO Mashrur Arefin led the City Bank delegation, accompanied by other senior members of the bank’s management team.
ITFC is a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group.

City Bank has maintained a relationship with ITFC since 2019, and the bank currently has a US$40 million Murabaha financing facility with the corporation, including a US$10 million syndicated facility.

The financing supports the bank’s trade finance activities and facilitates international trade.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their strategic partnership. They discussed potential areas for further cooperation, including export financing, green financing and opportunities to expand trade among member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

City Bank said the meeting marked a step toward expanding Shariah-compliant trade finance solutions, supporting Bangladesh’s key trade sectors and strengthening international trade connections.

The bank added that the proposed cooperation is also expected to contribute to the country’s broader economic growth.
