The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) joins the international community to mark the World Environment Day 2026, observed annually on June 5. The OIC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to building a greener, safer, healthier, and more sustainable future for all humanity. This year’s theme, “Climate Action,” embodies a global call to taking action, urging efforts to address the impacts and damages of climate change, accelerating environmental progress, and promoting sustainable urban systems capable of addressing increasing environmental challenges.
The humanity stands at a critical turning point in the face of rising temperatures, melting glaciers, and collapsing ecosystems. We have no choice but to urgently address, as a priority, the causes of this environmental degradation. The challenge is no longer limited to reducing carbon emissions, but extends to rethinking the economic and industrial systems that run our world, and repairing our relationship with the climate to ensure a more fair, reasonable and healthy future.
The OIC emphasizes the critical importance of strengthening international cooperation in addressing current environmental challenges and calls upon the international community to work more collectively to build resilient, inclusive, and sustainable ecosystems. By unifying global climate action, shifting towards AI-powered technology, depending more on renewable energy, accelerating forests restoration, and adopting circular economy principles, we can build a safer and more sustainable future.
We are all responsible for this planet, and we must preserve it in the best possible condition for future generations and for ourselves. This is not merely a matter of concern, but a vital necessity for survival, requiring the cooperation of all of us individuals, organizations, and governments. Taking action now to address climate change will prevent the exacerbation of future environmental challenges that will affect every aspect of life on this planet.
The OIC, along with its various institutions and organs, will continue to support actions and policies aimed at preserving environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change on societies, economies, and all aspects of life in its Member States and beyond.
